Whiting Lake Sporting Club is a 1359 acre farm and lodge located just northwest of Marks in Quitman County, Mississippi. The property consists of over 9,000 sqft of lodging, 628 +/- acres of precision graded farmland, a 233 acre oxbow lake and 240 acres of flooded timber and duck habitat. Whiting Lake is an absolute sportsman’s paradise.

The main lodge consists of 7 large private bedrooms each with their own full bathroom. The bedrooms are located along a covered porch overlooking Whiting Lake allowing access from the main lodge to the individual rooms. In line with the 7 bedrooms is a large mudroom. This mudroom has areas for hanging waders and hunting gear and has benches to make for a comfortable transition before and after the hunt. The great room is most impressive with its large rock fireplace and large picture windows overlooking Whiting Lake. This room leads to two additional gathering areas including the famous Sutler Saloon Bar. This bar was reclaimed from the original Sutler Saloon in Nashville, TN where the current owners hosted their duck club meetings prior to its closure. This area comes alive after a good day of hunting. The lodge also has a large commercial kitchen with large pantry, commercial appliances and a formal dining area that also overlooks Whiting Lake. In addition to the main lodge, there is another 800 sqft private cottage that includes a large bedroom with full bath. At the end of the lodge site is a 1,300 +/- sqft guide’s cabin/bunkhouse. This cabin has 5 bedrooms with kitchenette and 2 bathrooms. One of the bathrooms has multiple showers and toilets. A 1,500 sqft shop is located here as well to hold all the equipment and decoys. Near the flooded timber there is another structure that was formerly used as the lodge called the duck shack. It is still used occasionally and adds more space if needed.

The farmland located at Whiting Plantation consists of 628 acres and is all irrigated and precision graded. The farm has 5 irrigation wells with risers allowing easy access to water. Most of the fields are also set up with flash board riser making the field easy to flood during duck season. Several additional acres of tillable land have been maintained as waterfowl food plots and are planted in rice and millet each year. The farmland is mostly silty clay and silty loam soils making excellent crops each year. In 2020 the farm was planted in soybeans and rice, both of which appear to be very good crops. The tenant in place is paying a cash rent of $100,000 per year.

The flooded timber on this property is located on the east side of the farm. It consists of 240 +/- acres with a mixture of bottomland species of oak, tupelo and cypress. Most of this timber is controlled by levees and water control structures. There are 3 large holes located in this block and plenty of roads and other areas to stand and hunt. Whiting lake also provides some good waterfowl hunting with 8 different blinds located throughout its tupelo and cypress trees to account for wind and duck flight patterns. There are 6 additional blinds located along the fields and foodplot areas to allow a diverse hunting experience. The club has an impressive duck harvest log book at the lodge. In addition to ducks, Whiting Lake hosts a large dove hunt each year in its annual sunflower patch located near the lodge. They kill impressive numbers of dove here every year and makes for a great start of the hunting season. This area of the delta is also known for large whitetail bucks. There are several areas the owners currently hunt deer but do keep ducks in their focal sight with management practices. Bass, crappie and catfish can be caught in the lake year around and makes this property a destination all year long.
